Evo 5 and 6 were the best Evos because of the wild fender flares. I used to love these in the Gran Turismo days!
Evo 5 GSR
Evo 6 TME
Evo 6 GSR
The Evo 6 Tommi Makinen Edition is the most conventionally appealing out of the three, but the base GSRs are wild in their own ways.
My fave is the 6 GSR. What about you all?

I saw someone dropping their kids off at a shopping center in Okazaki in a TME. He looked at me strangely for taking a picture of his car.

I used to see quite a few of these growing up, now I rarely see them at all.

I’m in love. I need one and I need it now. 4G63 life the only way, and with that sexy body to boot.... I’d marry it if I could.

V and VI are my favorites from all Evolution models. Sadly Evolution models haven’t been offered in most European markets. But V and VI make an exception as they were available as Carisma GT in some countries. I do believe that Finnish dealer did sell some but I haven’t seen a single one that that went to streets (and not to rally purposes). In any case these are very rare.

I like the V’s because their bigger fog lights remind me of my old Protege 5.

I used to be nuts about them. EVO 5 is probably my favorite.

As a kid I liked the 5 best, because of the pizza foglamps and the huge symmetrical intakes.
Now I think I like the 6 GSR look more because of the DGAF asymmetry. It looks more functional because the number plate is completely out of the way of the central opening.

If these were sold in the US I would probably have owned a V or VI by now, even though I would definitely feel self-conscious being seen in it.
The later Evos just look so tame in comparison.

True asymetry done correctly like the 6 GSR is pretty great.

The later Evos are tame by comparison. After the 6 they were no longer built for homologation, the road cars became less serious.
I have a friend with a 6 TME. He doesn’t love it anymore. It’s always broken. Poor thing.

Is it tuned? What are the recurring problems?

Things break and it’s hard to find parts, and the parts aren’t cheap. In the last few years it’s had a blown turbo and replacement front shocks among other things, they weren’t cheap. TME specific items I think, the turbo certainly is. Has some electrical gremlins too.
It’s also too stiff and low and hard to live with and sort of difficult to drive and uses plenty of fuel. It’s a very nice car, real cool and the performance is fantastic, but he does a lot of kays and he got over it.
Not tuned.
